Explore Indianapolis Differently: EMBOSS x Walk & Talk Indy’s “Walk in the City” Series

This July, EMBOSS is partnering with Walk & Talk Indy founder Sampson Levingston for Walk in the City, a four-week neighborhood walking series designed to help participants experience Indianapolis through local history, community stories, and movement.

Held every Wednesday in July from 7:00–8:00 PM, each walk will explore a different part of the city, offering a chance to learn more about the places that shape Indianapolis — from long-standing neighborhoods to growing districts.

Whether you’ve lived in Indy your whole life or recently moved here, the city has stories worth knowing.

July 8: Haughville

Haughville is located on Indianapolis’ near west side and developed alongside the city’s industrial growth in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It has long been home to families connected to nearby manufacturing and neighborhood businesses, with a history shaped by migration, community ties, and everyday life in the city.

July 15: Martindale

Martindale, often referred to as part of the larger Martindale-Brightwood area on the near northeast side, has deep roots in Indianapolis’ Black history. The neighborhood became home to many Black families during the Great Migration and has long been a center of culture, entrepreneurship, and community organizing despite decades of disinvestment.

July 22: Carmel

Just north of Indianapolis, Carmel has transformed significantly over the last several decades, growing from a small town into one of Central Indiana’s largest suburban communities. Known for its extensive roundabout system, walkable city center, and public art investments, Carmel offers a different perspective on regional growth and development.

July 29: Butler-Tarkington / Midtown

Butler-Tarkington is a neighborhood on Indianapolis’ near north side and home to Butler University. It is known for its historic residential character, tree-lined streets, and established neighborhood institutions. Nearby Midtown connects a collection of north-side neighborhoods and includes local restaurants, parks, and trails that support everyday gathering and walkability across the area.
